Bus tour akrotiri and sunset

For those not so fond of the sea and swimming but interested in exploring another breath taking sight of view ofSantorini we would suggest the bus tour Akrotiri and Oia Sunset.

The buss will pick you up from your hotel (or a spot very close to your hotel) heading the ancient city of Akrotiri. Accompanied by your English Speaking Guideyou will take a walk among the ancient buildings untouched by time, preserved in a volcanic cocoon until Dr Sp. Marinatos excavated the city in 1967. Take your time admiring the architecture of the city well protected under the new bio climate shelter. Imagine the people living there before they were forced to leave the island after the continuous earthquakes almost 3600 years ago. Admire the modern facilities that featured this prehistoric city (e.g. draining system) , the decoration of the houses with frescoes depicting in the most accurate way the habits and the way of leaving of it’s citizens. On your way out the guide will point you out the grave of Dr. Sp. Marinatos (the Archeologist who first excavated Akrotiri) lying there ever since his sudden death in 1974 whilst excavating the city.

From Akrotiri we will head north into our next stop, one of the biggest and well organized beaches of the island. Perissa beach will excite you with it’s black sand and the deep blue water either you decide to swim or just enjoy a refreshing drink. After Perissa beach we will visit Megalochori, a traditional village. Walk by the beautiful big mansions as well as the small picturesque houses. Stroll among the narrow streets and explore the churches.  On our way to our next stop we will pass by Pyrgos the first capital of the island and one of the remaining “kasteli”(traditional settlement built in a way to prevent pirates from entering the main city).Next, photo stop at Prophet Ilias Mountain. Admire the breathtaking view of the island from it’s highest top.

Akrotiri entrance fees 12,00€ is NOT included.
